IIBC Vehicle Fire: There’s a Lot Under the Hood!

by Insurance Institute of BC
December 06, 2018
BCIT Downtown | 555 Seymour Street | Rm 280/282/284 | Vancouver | BC

Time: 8:45am – 12:00pm

If you think it is difficult to understand fire ignition and how fire travels within a building, wait until you investigate a vehicle fire! Not only are there many oxidants, fuels, and ignition sources, but they are all crammed into a very confined space. Whether you’re a new or seasoned investigator, it’s important to understand the various dynamics involved in a vehicle fire in order to determine the origin and cause of the thermodynamic event.

  • Review basic fire science principles
  • Compare structure fires to vehicle fires
  • Discuss vehicle fire investigation basics
  • Examine techniques to determine origin and root cause
